先日中公の編集者にこの本はもう売ってないと言われた。理由はWASPは死後だから。使われなくなってもアメリカを理解する重要語だが。

『建築の見方』という本を書きたかったが、「もっと長く読まれる入門書を書いて欲しい」と編集長が言っていると担当編集者が拙宅に来て曰う。そこで『建築の見方』は大事にとっておいて、違うことを書くことにした。類書を本棚に探すと芥川也寸志の『音楽の基礎』があった。この新書は2003年の段階で48刷りと言う驚異的な本である。こういう本を書けということですねと担当編集者に聞いたら、頷いた。やれやれ荷が重い。I wanted to write a book called “How to View Architecture,” but the editor in charge came to my house and said that the editor-in-chief said, “I want you to write an introductory book that many people can read for a longer time.” Therefore, I decided to write something different, keeping the “view of architecture” at another chance.
