学会の著作賞の審査で安原盛彦さんの著書に触れた。源氏物語から当時の空間を読解する手際に感嘆した。あれから大分たってふと思い出して他の著書を読んでみることにした。日本と西洋、一体どこか違いどこが同じなのか？I touched on Morihiko Yasuhara’s book when judging the academic book award. 日本建築の空間を扱った二つの本を真面目に一気に精読した。井上さんは流石に美学者なので私にとってはとても刺激的だし、こんな本は普通の日本建築専門の方には書けないだろうなと感じた。一方神代さんの九間（ここのま）論は痛快だ。私のFujimi Hutは九間であり、伊勢神宮内宮はFujimi Hut二つ、出雲大社本殿は四つでできていると教えられた。日本建築の名座敷はだいたい九間であり神代さんによれば人間一人が生きる基準サイズだそうだ。ということはFujimi Hutに3人泊まるとかはしてはいけない行為なのだろう。
I seriously read two books dealing with the space of Japanese architecture in one go. Mr. Inoue is an esthetician, so it was very stimulating for me. On the other hand, Kojiro’s theory of nine spaces is exciting. It taught me that there are nine Fujimi Huts, Ise Jingu Naiku consists of two Fujimi Huts, and Izumo Taisha Honden consists of four Huts. A typical tatami room in Japanese architecture is about nine rooms, which according to Mr. KoJiro, is the standard size for a single human being to live in. That means staying at Fujimi Hut for three people shouldn’t be done.
