Projects that we had won proposals from local cities and had completed the implementation design are on the verge of disappearing. The reason is not clear, but it may be because the person who took the initiative has retired.
This is not the only case, but I keep encountering things that make me think that government offices are just government offices. My friend’s daughter left the Ministry of Finance early. Young people want to change the government, but the upper echelons, which are full of collusion, do not change at all. And the young people who are passionate about reform will leave their jobs, and only those who have no intention of changing will remain, and the government office will always be a government office. Even if architects who care about the public nature of things argue, nothing will change if the main castle doesn’t change. I have no expectations for the rotten Japanese government.
This book was published over 50 years ago. In addition to abstraction, the central theme of Shinohara’s early years, I am reminded that there are many references to emotions and emotions. He manifested in the quality of the material and the size of things.
I saw Nagoya Zokei University, which was designed by Yamamoto Riken, from the bus. I was surprised by the size of the square, which measures over 100 meters on each side.
Mr. Harada and Mr. Teshima and I conducted an on-site examination for the Tokai Residential Architecture Award over two days. After a public discussion, we decided on one Grand Prize and two Excellence Awards. It was a complicated judging process; the main issue was aesthetics and how it was made. But I voted for aesthetics. Mr. Harada and Mr. Teshima agreed that the emotion of architecture would ultimately support future architecture, and a small single woman’s house of 17 tsubos won the grand prize. It was a wonderful house. The designer will become an outstanding architect in the future. Congratulations.
