素材と時間をめぐるシンポジウムをハイブリッドて行った。久しぶりに人に会い話しができたのはまず楽しい。60人余りのオンライン参加者もきっと楽しんでくれたでしょう。

A hybrid symposium on materials and time was held. It’s fun to meet and talkto people for the first time in a long time. Over 60 online participants must have enjoyed it.

今日のシンポジウムは東京大学で行う。構内は学外者入構禁止。特別な理由がある場合は入構願いを出さないといけない。地下鉄の駅出たらキャンパスだった早稲田とはだいぶ違う。

Today’s symposium will be held at the University of Tokyo. Those who doesn’t belong to the university are not allowed to enter. If you have a special reason, you have to make a request for admission. It’s quite different from Waseda, where you naturally appear on campus when you get out of the subway station.

JIA環境会議議長の袴田喜夫さんにインタビューした。この組織は長らく色々な活動をしてきている。その一つに全国でエコハウスづくりを手伝って、できた建物の性能調査をした。それをまとめた『エコハウスへの誘い』という本がある。これは面白い。どこが良いかではなくどこがダメかを書いてあるからである。そういう本は貴重である。

I interviewed Mr. Yoshio Hakamada, Chairman of the JIA Environmental Council. This organization has been involved in various activities for a long time. One of them was to help build eco-house projects all over Japan and to survey the performance of the buildings they made. There is a book called “Invitation to Eco House” that summarizes the results. It’s interesting. This book is interesting because it describes not what is good, but what is not. Such books are valuable.

カール•ポパーは歴史は科学たりえないとしてマルクス主義を批判した。そして科学には反証可能性が必要で、科学的命題は反証されるまでの暫定的真実だと言う。建築意匠論は哲学的でこれも科学ではないが、時代性を帯びると言う意味で暫定的真実である。

Karl Popper criticized Marxism for the fact that history cannot be science. He says that science needs falsifiability, and that scientific propositions are tentative truths until they are disproved. Architectural design theory is philosophical and not science, but it is a tentative truth in the sense that it is timely.

古谷誠章さんにインタビューしに理工キャンバスに出かけた。何かが起こる仕掛けを作るのが古谷建築のエッセンスである。早稲田は製図対面でやっているそうである。びっくり。

I went to Waseda Riko campus to interview Nobuaki Furuya. The essence of Furuya architecture is to create a mechanism for something to happen. Design studio in Waseda is being conducted face-to-face, surprising.

Zoomでワークショップに参加する海外建築家を正式に客員研究員にしてフィーも払えるようにお願いし認めていただいた。これは進歩である。

We asked the university that overseas architects who participated in the workshop at Zoom formally become visiting researchers and be paid. This is progress.
