我が家はバスルームが冬寒い。気積に対して窓が大きいから。偶者は即席トリプルガラスにすべく、包装用のプチプチを二重にして両面テープでガラスに貼り付けた。庭が見えなくなったが効果はてきめんである。

The bathroom in my house is cold in winter. Because the window is big for the air volume. The spouse doubled the bubble wrap for packaging and attached it to the glass with double-sided tape in order to make it an instant triple glass. I can’t see the garden, but the effect is great.

翻訳本『白い壁』の序文を書くために著者マーク・ウィグリーのレクチャーなどを調べていたら、ロンドンのAAで2015年に「近代建築の色盲」というレクチャーをしていた。1時間半くらいが、ほとんど本書の説明であった。僕が彼と会う１年前のことである。

To write the foreword to my translation of White Walls, I was looking up lectures by the author, Mark Wigley, and found that he gave a speech at the AA in London in 2015 called ‘Colour Blindness in Modern Architecture.’ It was a year before I met him.

真偽は知らないが、インフルエンザ抑制には絶対湿度11g/m3以上にすると良いと聞く。我が家はそれを目標に加湿している。配偶者にとっては喉対策である。すると朝方はベアガラスの窓は全面結露する。トリプルガラスを使えば結露しないのかもしれないが、結露も冬らしくて、いいではないか。 

I don’t know  the truth, but I hear that the absolute humidity should be 11g / m3 or higher to control influenza.  My home is humidifying with that as a goal.  It is a throat countermeasure for the spouse.  Then, in the morning, the pair glass window is completely dewed.  If you use triple glass, it may not condense, but it seems to be winter, so it’s okay.

神経すり減らすようなデザイン打ち合わせの後に、博士論文打ち合わせは頭が限界。朝買った食材でパエリアを作るとほっとする。

After a tense design meeting We had the doctoral dissertation meeting which made me crazy. I feel relieved when I make paella with the ingredients I bought in the morning.

For the past week, leave the food to my spouse for business trips and entrance exams. I declared that I would make it today, but I noticed that I will have zoom meeting from noon to night. 神楽坂は一方通行だらけである。飯田橋から自宅まで全ての道が一方通行である。しかも時間帯で方向が変わるので家にタクシーで帰ることは滅多にない。住民は皆同様に感じていると思う。よって交通量はかなり少ない、加えて坂と曲がり道が多いので車の速度は遅い。だから神楽坂に帰ってくると安心する。道が自分のものに感じられる。

Kagurazaka is full of one-way streets. All roads from Iidabashi to my home are one-way. Moreover, since the direction changes depending on the time of day, I rarely go home by taxi. I think all the residents feel the same. Therefore, the traffic volume is quite light, and the speed of the car is slow because there are many slopes and turns. So I feel relieved when I come back to Kagurazaka. The road feels like ours.

理科大は140周年。下端の言葉が気になった。というのも拙著で理念という言葉を英訳するのにPhilosophyにするかPrincipleにするかまよったから。かなりの意訳。

理科大の建学の精神は”理学の普及を以て国運発展の基礎とする”  なのでこれを英訳した上でそれをもっと現代的な日本語に直したのかなと思うに至る。

Tokyo University of Science is the 140th anniversary. I was curious about the words at the bottom. Because in my book, I wondered if I should translate the word 理念into Philosophy or Principle.

Since the founding spirit of the University  is “to be the basis for the development of national luck with the spread of science,” I wonder if they translated this into English and then translated it into more modern Japanese.
