インターナショナルスタイルの展覧会の時にはライトに罵倒され辞退されそれでも出展を懇願した。ミースを愛しミースまがいの自邸を作りミースに罵倒され、それでもシーグラムビルを共同設計した。モダニストだったのにポストモダニストに豹変し、デコンをプロモートした。そんなこの人は余程の天才かおちょうし者と思っていたが、この本によればどうも後者のようである。

When Wright refused to exhibit at the International Style Exhibition, Wrighthe abused Philip Johnson but still begged him to show. He loved Mies and made his own house like Mies; Mies beat him but still co-designed the Seagram Building. Jhonson was a modernist who turned into a postmodernist and promoted a Deconstructivist. According to this book, I thought he was either a genius or a dizzy person, but he seems to be the latter.

5mm大の大腸ポリープ2個摘出。切り口を金属クリップで止血。医師はずっと画面見ながら説明してくれた。痛みゼロ。内視鏡で自分の体はだいぶ見た。膀胱、腎臓は3回見た。そして食道、胃、本日大腸。

Two 5 mm-sized colon polyps were removed.  Stop bleeding at the cut end with a metal clip.  The doctor explained while looking at the screen all the time.  No pain.  I saw a lot of my body with the endoscope.  I saw the bladder and kidneys three times.  And the esophagus, stomach, and the large intestine today.

建築ではよく場所性という言葉が現れ、これが精神的なものを含意してわかりづらい。この本で語られる原武史のジオポリティクスは場所を形で捉え。その機能性やシンボル性を探るのでわかりやすい。富士山はこの形が信仰を引き寄せた。

In architecture, the word “basho(place)” often appears, and it is difficult to understand it because it implies spiritual things, which is invisible. Takeshi Hara’s geopolitics described in this book captures the place in the form. It is easy to understand the functionality and symbolism of the place in terms of form which is visible. This shape of Mt Fuji attracted faith.

明日(年度末)役所に提出する基本設計書はA3版200ページ近い。土木、構造、設備、ランドスケープ、担当者から原稿が集まってきた。日建時代は普通につくっていたが、独立して小さな仕事が多く、不要と思いやめていた。しかし今回、公共工事で作成が業務仕様に入っていた。関係者が多い仕事では言った言わないをなくす意味でも必要なことだと思う。しかしなかなか大変だ。

The schematic design document to be submitted to the government office tomorrow (end of the year) is close to 200 pages for the A3 version.  Manuscripts have been collected from civil engineer, structural engineer, equipment engineer, landscape designer. I used to make it normally during the Nikken era, but after my independence I thought it was unnecessary because my jobs were not that big.  However, this time, the creation of this document  was included in the business specifications for public works.  I think it is necessary in the sense of eliminating what I said and not saying in work where there are many people involved.  However, it is quite difficult.

4年前の今日僕はベルーに着き、始まった自邸設計の模型写真を見ていた。その年の9月まとまった設計を見積もりあまりに高く呆然とした。３年前の今日僕はやはりペルーにいて自邸の減額案模型を見ていた。２年前の今日僕は出来上がった自邸の施主検収をしていた。昨年の今日僕のブログには自邸の写真がアップされさまざまな風景の発見を喜んでいた。そして今日引き渡しから２年経つ自邸の一年目検査をいつやろうか考えでいる。

Four years ago today I arrived in Peru and was looking at a model photo of my own house design that started. In September of that year, I estimated a complete design and was too expensive and stunned. Three years ago today I was  in Peru again looking at a model of a reduction plan for my house. Two years ago today I was inspecting the completed house as an owner. Last year today, my blog posted a photo of my house and I was delighted to discover various landscapes. And I’m thinking about when to do the first year inspection of my house, which is two years after the delivery today.

親父の葬儀をビデオレターにして関係者に配信しようと兄貴が言い出したのは葬儀前日。新聞社の友が紹介してくれたビデオ編集者がたまたま次の日空いていたがカメラマンの都合がつかない。諦めかけたが編集者が私が、iPhoneで撮りましょうかと言ってくれた。最近のiPhoneは性能がいい。昨日完成した。当初は5分くらいにまとめるはずができたら20分近い。葬儀だけでなく、親父の人となりがわかりいい記念となった。

The day before the funeral, my brother said that he would make a video letter of his father’s funeral and distribute it to the people involved. A video editor introduced by a friend of the newspaper happened to be vacant the next day, but the photographer couldn’t afford it. We were about to give up, but the editor asked me if she could shoot with her iPhone. Recent iPhones have good performance. It was completed yesterday. Initially, it should take about 5 minutes, but it takes about 20 minutes. It was a good memorial not only for the funeral but also for being a father.

vanitasを編集している蘆田裕史の近著『言葉と衣服』は『言葉と建築』と似たタイトルだが、内容も近く、ファッション批評の言葉の定義の曖昧さを嘆き、言葉を定義する本である。それによれば「ファッション」には三つの意味がある。１）制作サイドから見た服そのもの、２）使用者サイドから見た服のコーディネーション、３）社会の受容としてみたときの流行である。この視点は建築をみる視座として相同的である。１）建築家から見た建築そもの、２）使用者による使いこなし、３）社会の受容。実はこの視点は僕の摩天楼研究そのものなのである。

The recent book by Hiroshi Ashida, who edits vanitas, “Words and Clothes,” has a similar title to “Words and Buildings”by Adrian Forty and is closer in content, lamenting the vagueness of the definition of the word in fashion criticism and defining the word. According to the book, “fashion” has three meanings:

1. The clothes themselves, as seen from the production side
2. The coordination of the clothes, as seen from the user side
3. The fashion as seen from the social acceptance side

This perspective is similar to that of architecture:

1. The architecture itself from the architect’s point of view.
2. How the user uses it.
3. How society accepts.

This perspective is the same as my research on skyscrapers.
