“Lost is the echo of space.”

These words by Kazuo Shinohara are the title of an essay written in a period of rapid economic growth following the end of postwar reconstruction.
Today, when environmental issues have become a global problem, inequality is widening, and ethnic conflicts arise, the social requirements for architecture have become more complex. To respond to these requirements, architects continue to struggle intellectually and creatively. On the other hand, the opportunities to refer to space seem to be diminishing. What will be the role of space in the architecture of the future? This symposium aims to address this question through a dialogue between architects in Japan, the birthplace of Kazuo Shinohara, and architects in Switzerland, where Kazuo Shinohara’s influence is evident.
