I received the catalog of the New Directions in Japanese Architecture exhibition held in Switzerland last year from Mr. Ishimura, a participating architect. When I saw the whole thing, I remembered Kyoichi Tsuzuki’s “Tokyo Style.” It is an admiration for Tokyo Vernacular. At the time of Tsuzuki, 1993 was the discovery of Tokyo Vernacular, which was created by young people 30 years ago. This time it is a variation of Tokyo Vernacular created by the designer. With the economic stagnation after the collapse of the bubble economy, it looks like things have stayed the same, but it also looks like design has not died yet.
