１０年前に自らのメンテナンスのために、一番見たい建築を一人で見に行くことにした。行った先はポルトガル。シザの謎に包まれたデザインを見たかった。最近日本人の方が書いたシザの本が出たので読んでみた。シザが少し分かった。しかし、やはり謎は謎のままである。そこがシザの良さなのだろう 。

Ten years ago, for my maintenance, I decided to see the architecture I wanted to see the most at that time. The destination was Portugal. I wanted to see Siza’s enigmatic design. Recently, a book written by a Japanese person about Siza came out, so I read it. I found out a little more about Siza, but the mystery remains a mystery. That’s the attraction of Siza, I think.

経済低成長を是認する上野千鶴子を北田暁大は無責任だと批判した。老若男女皆で清貧な生活をしようなんてゆとりあるインテリ左派の戯言だと一蹴した。ロスジェネ世代の叫びによって、私自身インテリ左派を気どるのはやめて、現実を直視することに改心させられた。北田の叫びの訴求力は最近読んだものの中では群を抜いていた。

Akihiro Kitada criticized Chizuko Ueno, who endorses low economic growth, as irresponsible. He dismissed it as an intellectual leftist idiot to live a poor life with all men and women of all ages. The claim of the Lost Generation changed me to stop being the intellectual left and face the reality. The appealing power of Kitada’s cry was by far the best I’ve read recently.

週末は玄関ドアか入る太陽光に布団を干す。ベランダないから室内干し。

On weekends, hang the futon to the sunlight coming through the glass of the entrance door. There is no balcony, so futon is dried indoors.

この袋には檜の木端が入っている。自然の防虫剤なのだが、衣装ケースに入れておいたら樹液が染み出し白いセーターが茶色になった。慌てて全部出してきた。

This bag contains the chips of a cypress tree.  It’s a natural insect repellent, but when I put it in the costume case, the sap oozes out and the white sweater turns brown.  I put it all out in a hurry.

道の駅富士吉田リニューアル事業基本設計業務に係るプロポーザルで設計者に選定いただいた。光栄である。新築とリノベの共存、公共性、富士山シンボリズム、など表向きに考えることは多々あるが、僕の内なる興味は公共建築でどこまで流れと淀み、千葉さんが身体的と言っていたような空間が作れるかというところにある。They selected us as the designer for the schematic design of the renovation project for Roadside Station Fujiyoshida. We are honored to have been selected. While there are many things that I should think about, such as the coexistence of new construction and renovation, publicness, and Mt. Fuji symbolism. But my inner interest is to see how far I can create a flowing space stagnant in a public building, as Mr. Chiba mentioned.
