日建のエースだったSさんはよく怒っていた。スタッフが思うように動かない。クライアントの理解が得られない。役所が文句を言う。「おかしいよ」が口癖だった。それを聞いた副社長のやはりSさんは「世の中におかしなことはたくさんある」と言って諫めていた。内藤さんの建築の難問を読んでS副社長のことを思い出した。難問は解決できないし、しようとしても時間の無駄。それが世の中なんだから。学会もコンペもおかしなことだらけだけど仕方ない。おかしくないことなんてないんだから。

Mr. S, who was Nikken’s ace, was often angry. The staff doesn’t work as expected. I can’t get the client’s understanding. The government office complains. “It’s strange” was a habit. After hearing that, Mr. S, the vice president, said, “There are many strange things in the world.” I read Mr. Naito’s architectural conundrum and remembered Vice President S. You can’t solve difficult problems, and even if you try, it’s a waste of time. Because that is the world. There are many strange things in AIJ and architectural competitions, but it can’t be helped. There’s nothing which has nothing to do with wrong things.

東北大の建築学科に初めて訪れた。CLTの可愛いパビリオンやケレツとみまごうRCの学科棟(設計は千葉学さん)が羨ましい。五十嵐さんに依頼されて半期4回のプレディプロマの指導を行った。その成果はなかなかのもの。プレゼンは上手く無いけど、考えていることは面白かった。来年は全部対面できるかな？

I visited the Department of Architecture at Tohoku University for the first time. I envy the cute pavilion of CLT and the RC department building (designed by Manabu Chiba). I was asked by Mr. Igarashi to teach the pre-diploma four times in a half year. The result is quite good. The presentation wasn’t good, but it was interesting student’s thinking about it. Can we meet person to person all four times next year?

明日、東北大のプレディプロマ最終レビュー。最後は対面にしたいとの依頼とPCRキットも送られてきた。
Tohoku University’s pre-diploma final review will be taken place tomorrow. PCR safe check kit was sent with the request to come there because of the last chance to meet together.

未来派はトリノの歴史性を基盤にその後進性を改革しようとする意思が歴史と交差して生まれたエネルギーであると言う多木浩二の解説にハッとした。これまで自分は建築家として歴史をどう捉えるべきかと考えていたが、どうも歴史とはそんなものでは無い。歴史とはわれわれが操れるものではなく、われわれに侵入してきて我々を操っているものなのでは無いのか？そう考えた方がいろいろ納得がいくように思う。

I was surprised convinced by Koji Taki’s commentary that the Futurism was  the energy created by the crossing between intentions to reform the backwardness based on the historical nature of Turin and that history. Until now, I as an architect have been wondering how to treat with  history, but history is not that kind of thing. Isn’t history something we can’t control, but something that invades us and controls us? It makes more sense to think that way.

未来派がキュビズムと異なるのは未来派が政治的だったこと。マリネッティは帝国主義者であり、ムッソリーニに擦り寄った。そんな未来派の発生経緯は、19世紀イタリアの後進性が社会改革と芸術を融合した結果と多木は言う。未来派のまとまった解説書はあまり無いがこの本は秀逸。息子がイタリアにいるから史料渉猟も容易だったのだろう。

What makes Futurism different from Cubism is that Futurism was political. Marinetti was an imperialist and sneaked into Mussolini. Taki says that the origin of such Futurism is the result of the fusion of social reform and art by the backwardness of Italy in the 19th century. There aren’t many futurist manuals, but this book is excellent. Since his son is in Italy, it may have been easy to hunt historical materials.
