JIAマガジン10月15日号編集後記を深夜に送って無事校了。

今月の「建築が生まれる時」は構造設計家の金箱温春さんが構造設計をした青木淳さん意匠設
計の青森県立美術館である。掘った遺跡(土)と屋根の間に展示空間を作ると言う命題を実現
するために「屋根から下に向かって構造を考える」と言う通常とは逆の発想が生まれた時のス
ケッチや模型を見せていただいた。
This month’s “When Architecture was Born” is the Aomori Museum of Art, designed by Jun Aoki. Otoharu Kanebako, a structural designer, designed the structure. To realize the proposition of creating an exhibition space between the excavated ruins (soil) and the roof, he showed us some sketches and models when he came up with the unusual idea of “thinking about the structure from the roof downward.”

大学の理念

現在の大学には5つ問題があると著者は言う、1)学生数も大学数も必要以上に多く、2)それゆえ過当競争で教育は商品化され、3)授業科目が欧米の倍あり教育が浅く、教員は忙し過ぎて学生の時間が取れず、4)トップ大学でもグローバル化できず、5)デジタル化が遅れている。これは聞けばどこの大学もそうであろう。しかしこれはある意味表面的な問題で根源的な問題は大学に理念がないと言うことのようである。国家も宗教も超えて世界や宇宙を描く高邁な哲学である。なんていうとだから大学は蛸壺だと言われそうだが、でも僕は著者を支持する。建築も高邁な哲学なのだと思う。頭でっかちはいらないと社会は言うのだろうが、長い目で見たら理念を作れる人が会社を支えるはずである。

According to the author, there are five problems with today’s universities.

  1. the number of students and universities is much larger than necessary,
  2. education is therefore commoditized due to over-competition,
  3. the number of courses is twice as large as in Europe and the U.S., and education is shallow, and faculty members are too busy to spend time with students,
  4. even the top universities are not able to globalize, and
  5. Digitalization is lagging.

This is probably true of all Universities if you ask me. However, this is a simple problem somehow, and the fundamental problem seems to be that universities do not have a philosophy. It is a high-minded philosophy that transcends nations and religions to envision the world and the universe. One might say that this is why universities are octopus pots, but I support the author. I think that architecture is a high-minded philosophy as well. Society may say that we don’t need a big-headed person, but a company should be supported by people who can create a philosophy in the long run.

動と静

建築はパブリックな場所とプライベートな場所がある。センター棟はパブリックな場所を周辺に、クリニック棟はセンターに置いた。前者はパブリック空間がドーナツ状になり流動的。後者は静的になる。

There are public and private places in architecture. The public area of the center building is located along the periphery of the building, whereas the public area of the clinic building is located in the center. In the former, the public space becomes donut-shaped and fluid. The latter is static and calm.

たもかく本の街

福島県に巨大な古本屋がある。「たもかく本の街」と言う。蔵書数150万冊。ビル4層に亘丸善大手町の蔵書数が120万冊だからその大きさは推して知る。何故そんなに本があるかと言うと田舎を知ってもらうために本と山を物物交換したそうだ。僕も今後はここに本を売って山を買おうかな?

There is a huge second-hand bookstore in Fukushima prefecture. It is called “たもかく本の街”. Collection of 1.5 million books. Maruzen Otemachi has 1.2 million books on the 4th floor of the building, so you can guess its size. The reason why there are so many books is that he bartered books and mountains to get to know the countryside. Should I sell books here and buy mountains in the future?

何故大学だけが未だに閉じているのか?という問いに吉見俊哉は大学のオンライン化が既に進んで来ており、遠隔の方が効果的なものもあるからだという。そう思う。一方私立大学の低学年の必修科目などは大人数でやっていて、やや不安だが、大人数は対面だって大人数なので、問題は授業方法と内容だと私は思う。

Why is only the university still closed? Toshiya Yoshimi says that universities are already online, and some are more effective when remote. I think so. On the other hand, I’m a little worried about the compulsory subjects in the lower grades of private universities where I have large number of students. But even if I do it face-to-face a large number is the same. I think the issue is the teaching method and content.

西山夘三の価値

この本を読むとやっとわかる西山夘三。ソーシャリストアーキテクトとしての戦後の位置付け、浜口隆一のヒューマニズム。それを乗り越える丹下健三。さらにその建築を解体した磯崎新。後期ゼミ本にしたがその価値大いにあり。

The positioning of Nishiyama Uzo, which I finally understood in this book. The Postwar Positioning of the Socialist Architect, and the Humanism of Hamaguchi Ryuichi. Tange Kenzo overcame it. Furthermore, Isozaki Arata who dismantled that architecture. I take this book for my seminar in the second semester; it is worth it.

辻本先生

学会の大きな委員会で先輩教授の辻本さんとご一緒する。この人、大阪南のべらんめー調で発言する。知らない方はちょっと引く(zoomだけど)。そこで、つい昔の教室会議のノリでご意見申し上げてしまう。僕らの教室会議は夜間部だったので5人しかいなかったし、辻本先生が毎度差し入れてくれる饅頭やミカンを食べながらのんびりやっていた。そして会議が佳境に達すると辻本節が炸裂した。

I meet with Professor Tsujimoto, a senior professor at a major conference committee meeting of AIJ. This man speaks in an Osaka Minami’s Beranmei tone. If you don’t know him, you might be a little taken aback (zoom though). So I’m just going to give my opinion on the style of old school meetings. There were only five of us in the second division of TUS’s architectural school, and we were having a good time eating the buns and mandarin oranges that Tsujimoto-sensei always brought for us. When the meeting came to a climax, Tsujimoto’s tune exploded.
