On May 15, 2020
by 卓 坂牛

The toothache lasted three or four days. For some reason, I didn’t want to go to a place called a hospital, so I bought a paste of painkiller called Kondisui on Amazon. I swabbed it and slept on it for a night, and it went away. I don’t know if the medicine worked or if it was a natural cure, but I’m glad it did.

My spouse bought a fan. Our house is a large studio, so the wind flows through it, but the Japanese-style room becomes a private room. Let the airflow there. The new Dyson is much quieter.

Turkish dish, which I stopped to make yesterday; zucchini with rice stuffed with yogurt—eggplant tomatoes in Italian style. Turkish cuisine is elaborate, but it’s delicious.

On May 14, 2020
by 卓 坂牛

At Shinshu University, I had never seen or taught a first-year student. It is because the students who come to the Nagano campus from the second year take liberal arts classes at the Matsumoto campus. Even after I went to the Tokyo University of Science, I was in charge of the higher grades until last year, so I had only seen first-year students in the guidance after the entrance ceremony. But this year, I started teaching first-years and took charge, and I zoomed in on the faces of nearly 120 first-year students. The experience of staring at a person’s face squarely without their recognizing me is a strange one.

The leaves of the ash on the side of the entrance were too overgrown, and it was too hot, so I wiped 30 liters.

The longer I was in the house, the sharper my nose became, and I brought out the room cologne that had been sleeping in the back of the closet. It was bought more than ten years ago at the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, designed by Alberti and Brunelleschi. I sprayed it on the provided cardboard and left it there, and it smelled suitable for a day.

The three grand cuisines in the world are Chinese, French, and Turkish. What, Turkish? I’ve never been there or eaten there, but if you look it up, I made it based on a recipe that comes up, yogurt and cucumber soup, fried eggplant with flour, and lamb with tomato soup. Sure, it’s okay, but it’s not as unique as Chinese and French.

Marcus Aurelius was quick to deal with the plague of Antoninus, and Roosevelt was one of the first to eradicate polio. Political leadership sometimes saves people from disease. Reagan, on the other hand, was in big trouble if he snickered at AIDS and left it alone. Trump hasn’t learned from history and he’s snickering at COVID-19 and causing a lot of trouble. In addition to COVID-19, tuberculosis continues to infect more than 10 million people a year (today’s corona is just under 5 million) and causes more than 1 million deaths (today’s corona is just under 300,000). This kind of infectious disease is driven to poor countries, where it survives. This is typical collateral damage. It’s better to think about the after corona, but it’s also better to realize that there are many things that are equally scary if you think about them calmly.

On May 13, 2020
by 卓 坂牛

The author says that there is no longer a boundary between a professional and an amateur photographer. What about the food? If you faithfully follow the professional recipes distributed on the Internet, you can certainly eat more delicious food for the same price than eating out. Even if not, if architects distribute drawings and patterns on the Internet like food recipes, the day will soon come when robots and 3D printers will be able to make them together. No longer do students in the U.S. make models by hand, and a 3D printer can make a huge model, about 3 meters high and wide, for as little as 2,000 yen.

On May 13, 2020
by 卓 坂牛

The best part of the housewife phenomenon is that I became a cook, but this was entirely predictable when I knew we would be in for the long haul. What I didn’t expect was that when I woke up in the morning, I was thinking about lunch, and when I finished my lunch, I was thinking about dinner—and asking your spouse, “What do you want to eat at night?

Once upon a time, my spouse asked me what I wanted to eat at night right after lunch, and I said, “I can’t think about it because my stomach is full,” but now I can think about it even if my stomach is full. It turns out that appetite and desire to produce are two completely different things.
