The main gate of Gakushuin

On May 5, 2020
by 卓 坂牛

I came to the main gate of Gakushuin built in 1887; an Important cultural property. Some times I came here when my daughter was in Junior high And high school.

I’ll make it today. Our specialty is Aqua Pasta. Usually, Tai, but today is Suzuki. Place the tomatoes, garlic, and citron slices in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. The hamburger is traditional and contains bread crumbs, milk, and eggs. After all, this is also delicious. The salad is an organic vegetable from Kagurazaka particular shop. These vegetables have a solid core and taste.

JIA magazine

This month’s “When Architecture is Born” is a small model by Hideyuki Nakayama, who won this year’s JIA New Designer Award. This model, which was the prototype of the proposal, was made from scrap styrofoam and has no walls in the middle of the three roofs, but looks also bridge structure. It is a strange experience that changes what we see according to the perceptual attitude of the viewer.

I came across the large buildings during a morning walk. I found that these are the facilities of the University of Tokyo named Mejirodai International village. Surprising!

Because the automatic soap dispenser I bought a week ago for the basement kitchen works well, I bought another one for the guest restroom.

Praying

I prayed at the tiny temple at Dainichizaka near my house when I saw the words meaning there is an exit of the tunnel, even if it is very long.

Today I had individual ZOOM interviews with 4th-year students who have been assigned to my lab and haven’t met in person since the kickoff meeting in February. Corona is keeping the Students in the house. I think there are a lot of stresses in not seeing your friends, we talked for three hours, and somehow I felt it. If there is a more emergency declaration to come, let’s do this kind of communication once in a while.

Enric

I had a Skype conversation with Enric in Barcelona to discuss a book of works to be released by TC. I could see A bright blue sky through the louvered roof of the wide balcony. Barcelona looks a little better now then the government has lifted curfew since May 1. He said that in the first place, in Spain, Madrid was in a terrible state because of a mishandled initial response and that Japan would have withheld information because it wanted the Olympics. Is that how it’s supposed to be in the world? He said his classes at the Politecnico de Catalunya are still online right now, but his final critique in June will be face-to-face. He would like to come to Japan in the second semester and give a workshop in Japan. I hope you can come.

I read Ecology without Nature: Rethinking Environmental Aesthetics 2007 by Timothy Morton. Although this is a tough book, the essence seems clear, which is a condemn of beautification of nature, and acceptance of nature as it is. He called it a dirty ecology. This term sounds like dirty realism in literature and architecture. His thought seems to bring us what the reality is. This thinking is similar to those of other OOO(object-oriented ontology) philosophers.
